These Terms govern your use of Astar, operated by mottods. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy. Contact: support@mottods.com.
1. Acceptance
By creating an Astar account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Astar.
2. Who Can Use Astar
You must be at least 13 years old (or older where local law requires, e.g., 16 in TR for ETK purposes).
You must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract in your jurisdiction.
If you create an account on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.
We may refuse service or terminate accounts at our discretion under §10.
3. Account
Account creation via email + password, Sign in with Apple, or Google Sign-In - all through Supabase Auth. When using Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In, authentication data (email, name) is received from Apple / Google per their respective privacy policies; Astar stores only the resulting account record. Sign in with Apple satisfies Apple Guideline 4.8 as the privacy-preserving equivalent to Google Sign-In.
Display name is unique and may not impersonate Astar staff or another user.
You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials.
Account sharing or sale is prohibited.
We may verify identity if abuse is suspected.
4. User Content
4.1 What you post
Ownership of your content. By creating or submitting notes, dedications, star names, or any other content or materials within the app ("User Content"), you irrevocably and unconditionally assign to Astar all right, title, and interest - including all intellectual-property rights - in and to that User Content, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law. All content, features, and star namings created within the app are and remain the exclusive property of Astar. Astar may use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, distribute, rename, reassign, hide, remove, or create derivative works from such content, in any medium and for any purpose, at its sole discretion, without compensation or attribution to you.
Where such an assignment is not permitted under applicable law, you instead grant Astar a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid, transferable, and sublicensable license to use the User Content for any purpose, and you waive any moral rights in it to the extent permitted by law.
Your personal-data rights are unaffected. This assignment concerns intellectual-property rights in your content only. It does not reduce your rights over your personal data under applicable data-protection law (including the GDPR and KVKK) - including your rights to access, correct, and erase your personal data - which continue to apply as described in our Privacy Policy.
Your responsibility. You represent and warrant that you own or have all necessary rights to the content you submit and that it does not infringe or violate the rights of any third party.
4.2 Notes
Notes are persistent until the author deletes them or closes the account.
Notes are limited to 280 characters (text + optional emoji).
A note may be attached to a star as public (visible to anyone viewing that star in the 3D scene) or private (kept as the author's personal journal, never surfaced to other users).
MVP provides likes, favorites, and a public Explore feed of notes. Comments, followers/following, saves, and boost credits are deferred to v1.1+ and will require updated Terms.
4.3 What is prohibited
You will not post content that:
Violates law (in your jurisdiction or where the Service operates).
Constitutes harassment, hate speech, slurs, threats, doxxing, or incitement.
Is sexually explicit, sexually suggestive of minors, or sexually non-consensual.
Is spam, scam, phishing, or contains malware.
Infringes a third party's IP or privacy rights.
Impersonates another person or entity.
Contains URLs, contact information, or social handles inside Star Naming purchases.

4.4 Moderation
We use automated profanity filters and respond to user reports. Star Naming submissions are moderated automatically at claim time via a server-side trigger that screens for profanity and for a curated list of well-known trademarks: clean names publish instantly; names containing prohibited content, or matching a protected trademark exactly, are rejected at submission and no row is created. Post-publication recourse (for names that pass the automated check but are later found to violate these Terms) is handled by the Operator via Studio takedown - the same process as for notes. Sanctions range from soft-block to permanent ban. You can appeal at support@mottods.com.
5. Star Naming - Important Disclosures
By claiming a Star Naming, you acknowledge:
This name is an Astar community designation, not a scientific one. It is not recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) or any official astronomical body. The star itself remains catalogued under its scientific identifier (HD or HIP).
Names are moderated automatically at claim time (see §4.4). A name that passes the automated check publishes instantly; one that does not is rejected at submission with no row created.
Ownership is time-limited, not permanent. Each Star Naming package (see §6.1) grants ownership for a fixed term; buying additional packages on the same star extends that term. We do not provide name changes.
Names are community-unique - first approved claim of a given name wins; subsequent identical-name claims will fail an availability check at the input step.
Success is confirmed in-app only. No certificate (digital or physical) is generated or delivered by email.
Astar may, at its sole discretion and at any time, modify, rename, reassign, or remove the name associated with any named star, including for legal, safety, moderation, or operational reasons. A star name is a personalized label within the Astar app; it is not official or scientific recognition and confers no ownership of, or rights to, the star itself.
6. Payments & Subscriptions
Astar Premium is an optional, auto-renewing subscription, purchased and billed entirely through your Apple ID (App Store) or Google Play account:
Monthly: $7.99/month. Yearly: $49.99/year. Prices are set in USD and auto-localized to your local currency by the App Store / Play Store; your device will display the exact localized price before you confirm.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
Your subscription automatically renews for the same duration and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your payment method will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. You can turn off auto-renewal at any time in your device account settings; doing so takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
We do not collect or process your payment-card data - Apple / Google's in-app purchase infrastructure handles all billing. Your subscription's status (active, expired, renewal date) is synced to our backend via RevenueCat, our subscription-management subprocessor, solely to grant or revoke Astar Premium features.
6.1 Star Naming packages
Star Naming is purchased as a consumable in-app purchase package through your Apple ID (App Store) or Google Play account, billed and priced the same way as any other in-app purchase. It is available to every user, free or Premium - Star Naming is not a Premium-exclusive feature.
One package = 1 month of ownership on the star you name. $19.99 per package (standard price); Astar Premium subscribers pay $14.99 per package (25% off). Prices are set in USD and auto-localized to your local currency by the App Store / Play Store; the exact localized price is shown in-app at the time of purchase.
Packages stack. Buying more than one package on the same star extends your ownership term by 1 month per package (for example, two packages = 2 months), up to a maximum of 99 packages per star. Separately, you may hold at most 9 concurrently-named stars at any one time.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. Star Naming packages are one-time purchases - they do not auto-renew.
Grace period and reversion. When your accumulated package term ends, you enter a 14-day grace period during which you may renew ownership with one tap. If the grace period lapses without renewal, the star reverts to unnamed: your name is removed from the sky, and the star re-enters the pool available for anyone - including you - to claim again. A reclaimed name remains a symbolic, community designation and is not scientifically recognized (see §5), regardless of how long it was previously owned.
Refunds are handled by the platform, not by Astar. We do not issue refunds directly. For purchases made through Apple, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. For purchases made through Google Play, refunds are governed by Google Play's refund policy. If a Star Naming purchase is refunded or charged back, we automatically deduct that package's 1-month term from your star's ownership (and void any unspent naming credit from that purchase). If time remains after the deduction, your name stays on the star with the reduced term; if none remains, the star reverts to unnamed immediately, with no grace period - the 14-day grace period above applies only to a naturally-expiring term, not a refunded one.
Deleting your account forfeits any active Star Naming ownership immediately, with no refund (see §10).
6.2 Note duration-extension
A free-tier public note is visible for a limited time (24 hours by default), which can be extended through engagement (likes, shares, favorites) or by purchasing a note duration-extension - a consumable in-app purchase, priced and billed the same way as any other in-app purchase, that adds visibility time to one specific eligible note: +3 days for $0.99 or +7 days for $1.99. The extension is applied, and the purchase consumed, immediately on confirmation. Note duration-extensions are offered only on notes whose public visibility is time-limited; they are not offered on Premium-authored notes, private/Journal notes, or notes on a star you currently own, none of which carry a visibility time limit to extend. There is no refund for a note that has already expired, been removed for a Terms violation, or been deleted by its author before or after the extension is applied. Refunds for this purchase are handled by the platform, not by Astar - see §6.1.
7. Service Availability
We do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, bugs, third-party outages (Apple / Google / Supabase), and force majeure may cause downtime.
8. Intellectual Property
8.1 Our content
The Astar brand, app name, logo, icon, design, and proprietary code are owned by 1Pixel Story / mottods. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer them. User Content is owned by Astar as described in Section 4.1.
8.2 Star catalog credits
We use:
HYG database (Hipparcos + Yale Bright Star + Gliese) under CC BY-SA 4.0. Attributed in the in-app Credits screen.
IAU official star names (public domain) - attributed in Credits.
Other libraries (astronomy-engine, fonts, OSS) - attributed in Credits.
8.3 DMCA / Copyright complaints
To report infringement, email support@mottods.com with: identification of the content, your contact info, a statement of good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized, and your signature. We follow a 24-hour DMCA takedown SLA.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties - express or implied - including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that:
Notes will remain available indefinitely. We may remove notes that violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines, and a note disappears when its author or their account is deleted.
Star Naming claims are scientifically recognized (they are not - see §5).
The 3D sky alignment will be accurate in all locations or device states. Sensor-aligned "live sky" is subject to indoor magnetic interference and device-calibration error.
10. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you:
Violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines.
Engage in fraudulent or coordinated inauthentic behavior - for example, coordinated mass-naming attempts to monopolize prominent stars.
Pose a risk to other users or to the Service.
You may close your account at any time in Settings. Account deletion is immediate and irreversible - you must type "delete" in the confirmation dialog to proceed. All your data (notes, star namings, private star nicknames, likes, favorites, blocks, entitlements, push tokens, notification history, reports you filed, account profile, and auth credentials) is permanently deleted at that moment with no recovery period, except as required by law. Deleting your account does not cancel any active App Store or Google Play subscription - you must cancel that separately in your device's subscription settings, or it will continue to renew and bill you. Any active Star Naming ownership and any unused note duration-extension are forfeited immediately upon deletion, with no refund.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 100.
We are not liable for:
Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
Loss of profits, revenues, goodwill, or data.
Failures attributable to third parties (Apple, Google, Supabase, etc.).
Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusions; in such cases the exclusions apply to the maximum extent permitted.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless 1Pixel Story / mottods from any third-party claim arising out of your User Content, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Türkiye, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Exclusive jurisdiction is the courts and enforcement offices of Istanbul Çağlayan, except where local consumer-protection law gives consumers the right to sue in their home jurisdiction.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may change these Terms. Material changes are posted in-app at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. The current version's effective date is at the top of this document.
15. Miscellaneous
Entire agreement. These Terms + the Privacy Policy are the full agreement between you and us.
Severability. If any clause is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
No waiver. Failure to enforce a clause is not a waiver.
Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign to a successor in a corporate transaction with notice.
